February 27 – March 1 Mogilev to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Mogilev University of Food. The university will hold ceremonial meetings, excursions “Everyone should be a master in his work” introducing the theme gallery of Alexander Beschastnov, the rector of the University. The excursions will also present laboratories, the University’s museum.

This year there is a real boom for celebrating golden weddings in the regional centre, Galina Onoshko, head of the registry office of Mogilev city executive committee, told.

Today the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is making a working tour to Mogilev region, the presidential press service informs. The head of the state will unveil the bridge over the Dnieper river, having been reconstructed according to the President’s commission; he will also meet representatives of road-building organizations who partook in reconstruction, and people of the town.

In the picturesque place on the Dnepr River where two settlements Alexandriya and Kopys meet there is a bridge separating two regions – Mogilev and Vitebsk. July, 6-7 it will become a site of the festival “Alexandriya Welcomes Friends”.

50,000 postcards of anniversary edition will be issued by the Ministry of Communication and Informatization to mark the 625th birthday of Bobruisk. The postcard will have an image of Bobruisk fortress’s part, whereas the image of St. Nikolas Cathedral will be on the postcard’s stamp. The envelope and the special postmark has been designed by Ekaterina Priemko.

Mogilev region Olympic sports school “Spartak - 2005” has celebrated its 50th birthday. It was a non-contracted construction when a weight lifting gym was built in 1972. Mogilev enterprises carry on foreign trade with more than 70 subjects of the Russian Federation, deputy chair of Mogilev city executive committee Igor Shardyko told at today’s official meeting dedicated to the Union Day of Belarus and Russia marked today. February, 23 Mogilev’s Sovetskaya Square will hold the ceremony of the laying of flowers and wreaths to the Eternal Flame Monument. The event is dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day. The ceremony starts at 11 pm. Representatives of Mogilev’s enterprises, organizations and education establishments will lay flowers and wreaths to the monument, observe the moment of silence in honor of those who died defending our Fatherland. At 16.00 the City Culture and Leisure Centre holds a concert dedicated to the day.

18 century style wedding ceremony is offered in Krichev - Krichev registry office is situated at Prince Potemkin’s restored palace. Newly-wed are met by the Empress Catherine the Great, Prince Grigory Potemkin, servants, skomorokhs (wandering minstrel-cum-clowns) played by actors of district culture department.

First Christmas children ball “V vikhre zimnego valsa” (“In the vortex of winter waltz”) was held in Mogilev city centre of culture and entertainment on January 6. More than 130 boys and girls came to the Middle Ages fancy-dress ball.

A woman from Borisovshchina village, Glussk district, celebrated her 100th birthday. At present Zinaida Glaz is staying at her daughter’s. the woman got birthday greetings from chairman of Kalatichi rural executive committee Anatoly Rudinski, and was given a new life-long passport.

The event starts at 11.00 in the central square and the central park. It will include noisy festivities, performances, thematic stages, fairs, games and competitions.

New Year fever usually starts from December 25. Many cafés of Mogilev have already got reservations; this year they ask about Br200,000-250,000 price per person for New Year corporate celebrations.

The better facilities a café has, the more reservations it gets. Yet not all cafes have dancing halls or provide entertaining shows. Thus, the ones, that do not have dancing halls, still haven’t got many reservations for New Year celebrations, in spite of being located in the city centre.

Mogilev Regional Executive Committee held a festive ceremony dedicated to the Day of Mother. 40 mothers from Mogilev region took part in the ceremony to hear kind words of gratitude and appreciation addressed to them. The ceremony gathered the women who are both good mothers and reliable and responsible professionals.

Krichev celebrated its 875th anniversary. The citizens of the town celebrated the date with dancing, singing, cooking. The event included exhibitions of young artists, the performance by famous pop singers of Belarus. Guests from Ukraine and Russia also took part in these huge celebrations.

For the first time Krichev was mentioned in 1136. On September, 30 the town was liberated from the Nazis.
